Thursday 12 June 2008: Presentation by Sandra Robertson, Chief Investment Officer, University of Oxford, New York, NY This past June, Oxford’s North American Office was filled to capacity for a presentation by Sandra Robertson, the first Chief Investment Officer for the University of Oxford. After an introduction from Oxford Alumni Association of New York (OAANY) President Shahnaz Batmanghelidj (Somerville, 1975), Ms Robertson participated in a discussion with Chrystia Freeland (St Antony’s, 1993), US Managing Editor of the Financial Times, about Oxford University Asset Management (OUAM). Audience members were eager to ask questions about the endowment fund and Ms Robertson’s role as Oxford’s first CIO, both during the question and answer session and during a reception following the presentation. Thursday 6 December 2007: Book Discussion and Signing with Professor Martin Goodman, author of Rome & Jerusalem, New York, NY Martin Goodman, author and Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Oxford, drew many Oxonians to the Center for Jewish History to hear him speak about his latest novel. After a talk and question and answer session, Professor Goodman mingled with guests at a reception and signed books.
Monday 3 December 2007: Book Lecture and Signing with Tina Brown, author of The Diana Chronicles, New York, NY OAANY welcomed Tina Brown, author of the latest book on Princess Diana, to the Harvard Club of New York. Ms Brown spoke to the crowd of around 80 Oxford Alumni and guests and answered questions from the audience. Afterwards there was a reception and Ms. Brown signed copies of her book for attendees.
Thursday 20 September 2007: Alumni Reception with Professor Colin Mayer, Dean of Said Business School, San Mateo, CA About 30 alumni and friends were treated to an inspirational speech by Dean Mayer that covered SBS’s achievements over the past decade along with hopes and goals for the future. Most attendees came from the Palo Alto area to the beautiful Peninsula Golf & Country Club, but one alumnus came from as far as Nevada to attend.
Wednesday 19 September 2007: Oxford Alumni Association of New York’s Freshers Party, New York, NY OAANY’s annual Freshers Party gave incoming students a chance to mingle with alumni before heading over the pond. The event proved to be a great success with over 50 attendees, allowing both new friendships and reconnections to be made.
Tuesday 18 September 2007: Alumni Reception with Professor Colin Mayer, Dean of Said Business School, New York, NY Dean Mayer spoke to a large crowd in Oxford’s North American Office on the evening of September 18. SBS’s accomplishments to date were highlighted and future endeavors were discussed.
Friday-Sunday 14-16 September 2007: Oxford Alumni Weekend, Oxford, UK The first Oxford Alumni Weekend held at the University was attended by over 750 alumni and their guests. From panels with the University’s lead conservators to a fun run with Sir Roger Bannister, the weekend’s program was filled with a wide range of tours, special visits, talks, demonstrations and dinners in a number of locations spanning the campus. Attendees were given an opportunity to engage with some of the issues facing the University of Oxford in the 21st Century at a special question and answer session with the Vice-Chancellor. Saturday 8 September 2007: Third Annual Oxford-Cambridge Alumni Boat Race, Westport, CT The Third Annual Oxford-Cambridge Alumni Boat Race was a huge success, despite the uncharacteristically rough water conditions caused by the wind on the otherwise hot and sunny day. Oxford and Cambridge alumni showed up at the Saugatuck Rowing Club from all around the country to make the event another memorable one. Photos from the race can be seen here.
Monday 4 June 2007: Isis Innovation Presentation, New York, NY
Three key figures in Isis Innovation, University of Oxford’s wholly owned technology transfer company, came to speak to an audience in New York. James Mallinson, Portfolio Manager, Isis Innovation, Dr Luke Alphey, founder and CSO, Oxitec Ltd and Jeff Garner, New Hill Management discussed the link between profiting from science and technology companies from the University.
Tuesday 1 May 2007: May Day Reception, Washington, DC
Over one hundred Oxford alumni joined Lady Nancy Kenny, Director of Alumni Relations & Secretary of the Oxford University Society to celebrate May Day at the Cosmos Club.
Monday 30 April 2007: Luncheon with the Chancellor, New York, NY
Oxford alumni and OAANY members gathered at the University Club for a luncheon with the Chancellor Lord Patten. The Chancellor spoke to a captivated audience about the future of the University and remained after the lunch to answer questions. During the lunch, Guy Spier outgoing co-President of OAANY, was recognized by the Chancellor for his dedication.
Thursday 26 April 2007: Alumni Reception, New York, NY
Lady Nancy Kenny, Director of Alumni Relations & Secretary of the Oxford University Society met with Oxford alumni to update them on the current events of Oxford. During the reception, Amanda Pullinger, outgoing co-President of OAANY, was recognized by Lady Kenny for her years of dedication.
Tuesday 24 April 2007: Mathematics Lecture, New York, NY
Two outstanding mathematicians spoke to a group of 60 Oxford alumni and friends at the University of Oxford North American Office. Professor Marcus du Sautoy, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Wadham College, and Professor Sir Andrew Wiles KBE FRS, one of the world’s preeminent number theorists, gave captivating lectures on their work in mathematics.
Wednesday 28 March 2007: Bodleian Library Reception, Boston, MA
Dr Sarah Thomas, Bodley’s newly elected Librarian, spoke to Oxford alumni and Bodley friends about her goals and aspirations for the Bodleian Library. Dr Thomas previously held Director posts at the US Library of Congress in Washington, DC and at Cornell University in upstate New York. She is the first woman and non-British Bodley’s Librarian.
Wednesday 28 March 2007: Lecture with Dr Ngaire Woods, New York, NY
An enthralled audience of Oxford alumni and friends were treated to a lecture and reception featuring Dr Ngaire Woods. Dr Woods discussed her book, “The Globalizers: The IMF, the World Bank and Their Borrowers.
Monday 19 March 2007: Alumni Reception, Palo Alto, CA
Over 120 Oxford alumni met the Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Hood, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jon Dellandrea and Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Management Studies at Saïd Business School, Professor Colin Mayer at the Stanford Park Hotel. All three men spoke to the group and highlighted the University’s recent achievement and goals.

Alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the relocation of Oxford’s North American Office to Bryant Park. It was an exciting event to kick off what is sure to be a positive venture for the North American Office.
Thursday 30 November 2006: Bodleian Library Event, Washington, DC
“In the Beginning : Bibles Before the Year 1000” was an extraordinary exhibit held at the Smithsonian’s Arthur M Sackler Gallery. The exhibit was presented in association with the Bodleian Library and on November 30th, some of the Bodleian and Sackler’s curatorial staff showcased the exhibition to Oxford alumni. The evening included a black-tie dinner with a farewell to Dr Reg Carr, Bodley’s outgoing Librarian and Director of Oxford University Library Services.
Friday 31 March & Saturday 1 April 2006: 2006 North American Reunion, New York, NY
Over 900 Oxford alumni and their guests attended the biennial weekend event which included a reception with the University leadership and College Heads of House, academic seminars with talks by Oxford professors and alumni and lunch with keynote address by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Hood.
