Oxford's alumni.
Our December 2024 book is "Editing Humanity: The CRISPR Revolution and the New Era of Genome Editing"
by Kevin Davies (St Peter's College, 1979).
Kevin Davies PhD has more than 30 years’ experience in science writing and editing. He is the founding editor of Nature Genetics and currently the Executive Editor of The CRISPR Journal and a new multidisciplinary journal, GEN Biotechnology.
Kevin is the author of numerous books on the scientific, medical and social impact of groundbreaking technologies in genetics and genomics. His most recent is EDITING HUMANITY: The CRISPR Revolution and the New Era of Genome Editing (Pegasus Books), which was supported by the award of a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. His other books include Breakthrough: The Race for the Breast Cancer Gene (1995) and Cracking the Genome, an inside account of the race for the Human Genome Project (2001); The $1,000 Genome (2010); and a collaboration with Nobel laureate Jim Watson and Andrew Berry on DNA: The Story of the Genetic Revolution. He is currently writing a biography of sickle cell disease, entitled Curved Air, for Harvard University Press.
Kevin graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University and took a PhD in molecular genetics from the University of London. He held postdoctoral fellowships at MIT and Boston Children’s Hospital before hanging up his lab coat one last time and moving into science publishing with Nature. He is a former editor-in-chief of Cell Press, the founding editor of Bio-IT World magazine, and the first named publisher of Chemical & Engineering News. He lives in Washington DC.
