As a celebration of our alumni, each month we will highlight a new book written by one of Oxford's North American-based alumni.
Our June 2020 book is "Christian Martyrs under Islam: Religious Violence and the Making of the Muslim World" by Christian C. Sahner (St John's 2007).
Christian C. Sahner is associate professor of Islamic History at the University of Oxford and a fellow of St Cross College. A graduate of Princeton and Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, he writes about the late antique and medieval Middle East, relations between Muslims and Christians, and the history of Syria and Iran. He is also the author of Among the Ruins: Syria Past and Present (Hurst/ Oxford University Press, 2014), and his essays appear frequently in The Wall Street Journal and other publications.
