As a celebration of our alumni, each month we will highlight a new book written by one of
Oxford's North American-based alumni.
Our March 2022 book is "Cryptocurrencies: Money, Trust, and Regulation" by Oonagh McDonald
(Gwilym Gibbon Research Fellow, Nuffield, 1988-1989).
Oonagh McDonald is an international expert in financial regulation, having advised regulatory authorities in a wide range of countries, including Indonesia and Ukraine. She was formerly a British Member of Parliament, and subsequently a Board member of the Financial Services Authority, other regulatory bodies and financial institutions. She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the British Empire), a national honor awarded by the Queen, for her services to financial regulation and business. She is currently an adviser to Crito Capital, LLC. She is the author of several other books on financial regulation, including ‘Holding Bankers to Account’, 2019. She currently resides in Washington DC, having been granted permanent residence on the grounds of ‘exceptional ability’. She holds a Master’s degree and a Ph.D in philosophy from Kings’s College, University of London.
