As an internationally renowned centre for teaching and research, Oxford attracts students and scholars from across the globe, with almost a quarter of our students from outside of Great Britain. Director of the Ashmolean Museum in NYC

Alumni are invited to join Dr Xa Sturgis, CBE, Director of the Ashmolean Museum, and Holly Peterson, Director of Alumni Engagement, on their visit to New York.

The evening will start with a discussion on “What are Museums For? The Ashmolean past, present and future” led by Dr Sturgis, with the chance to ask questions and discuss ideas with fellow alumni. At a time when the Ashmolean’s extraordinary ancient statue of the god Min is on loan to the Met as part of their Divine Egypt exhibition the Museum’s Director, Dr Xa Sturgis will consider the shifting role and purpose of the Museum – from the creation of the Ashmolean – arguably the world’s oldest museum – to the challenges and opportunities faced by Museums today as they adapt to a changing world.

The discussion will be followed by a networking reception with canapes.

Giving

For almost 1,000 years, Oxford University has been recognized and celebrated across the world as a jewel in the crown of world learning. Just as our past inspires us, it also demands that we achieve greater heights in the centuries to come. Inspired philanthropy has always played an important role in this University by providing resources for great scholarship, architectural jewels such the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera, or the great engineering, medical and scientific laboratories of the 20th century. By giving to Americans for Oxford, you are continuing this tradition of excellence. Thank you.
