Dear Oxonians and Friends of Oxford,
With deep regret, I write to share the news that in light of the restrictions announced by officials in New York, the 2020 Oxford Alumni Weekend has been postponed. While I am disappointed that these festivities will not take place as planned, I fully understand and support the degree of caution public officials in New York have adopted. Large events, even those as wonderful as the Oxford Alumni Weekends, will need to be set aside until we can be sure they will not endanger the well-being of the attendees.
Full refunds will be provided within thirty days to everyone who has registered for the North American Alumni Weekend. The University will wait until the state of the world becomes clearer before we make any decisions regarding the rescheduling of this event. I look forward to sharing this update with you and to seeing you at a future Oxford gathering in North America. If you have specific questions about the Alumni Weekend, please contact a member of our office at events@oxfordna.org.
As the world grapples with the impact of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, I thought you would be interested to know the scope of urgent medical and scientific research underway within the University related to this cause. From having identified a strong vaccine candidate and lining up the manufacture of the first 1,000 doses for clinical trials, to testing existing drugs and creating new drugs, Oxford is at the forefront. Of course, our leading academics are collaborating with peers in medicine and science worldwide to formulate immediate solutions. For additional information, please use this link to the University’s website: http://www.ox.ac.uk/coronavirus-research.
My colleagues join me in saying that we hope you and your loved ones remain healthy during these uncertain times.
Sincerely yours,
Michael G. Cunningham
Executive Director
