As a celebration of our alumni, each month we will highlight a new book written by one of Oxford's North American-based alumni.
Our July 2020 book is "Unlikely Partners: Chinese Reformers, Western Economists, and the Making of Global China" by Julian Gewirtz (Merton, 2018).

Julian Gewirtz is Academy Scholar at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies and Lecturer on History at Harvard University. He received his doctorate in modern Chinese history from Oxford University in 2018, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. His research has been published in the Journal of Asian Studies, The American Scholar, and Foreign Affairs, and his other writing appears in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Washington Post. His poetry has been published in Boston Review, The Nation, The New Republic, PEN America, and Yale Review..
