As a celebration of our alumni, each month we will highlight a new book written by one of Oxford's North American-based alumni.
For March 2019, our author is Steeve Simbert, St. Peter’s College (2016).
Steeve Simbert writes, Finding Hope in Chaos: Rising from Crisis into the American Dream, to inspire young people to pursue their dreams and realize their full potential. Steeve hopes this book will inspire you to reach for the brightest star in the sky, no matter what adversities you might encounter along the way.
Following the devastating earthquake in 2010, Steeve moved from Haiti to the United States. He earned his bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University, and studied abroad, attending both the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) in France and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
In 2013, Steeve became a Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) fellow at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School. After that, he became the first Haitian American in history to receive a Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government.
Currently, Steeve works as a contractor with the Department of State. Prior to that, he worked in the U.S. Congress and the Department of the Navy as a contractor. Additionally, he interned in the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Organization of American States.
As an alumni board member and the social chair for the Oxford University Society of Washington, D.C., Steeve hosts a monthly happy hour in the capital city. He is also the Alumni Point of Contact in North America and Washington, D.C., for the University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government.
Steeve is passionate about ballroom dancing and competes with the Georgetown University Ballroom Dance team. He has won numerous competitions, including first place in Bronze International Latin at the Mid-Atlantic Championships, first place at the UPenn Classic, and second place at the USA Dance National DanceSport Championships.
Passionate about mentoring young students and helping them to achieve their academic and career goals, Steeve made his authorial debut with his college internship guide, The Young Leader’s Guide to Internships, Scholarships, and Fellowships in Washington, D.C., and Beyond.
